What are the different types of raw food diets for pets?

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

There are two main models when feeding a raw diet to your pets.

BARF - Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet

This diet is suited to omnivores and includes meat, organ meat, bones, fruit, and vegetables. The raw meat, organs and bones mimic what dogs ate in the past, with a nice dose of added vitamins and nutrients from the fruit and vegetables. This diet is only suitable for dogs.

PMR - Prey Model Raw diet

The Prey model is 100% animal product, either whole carcass or offcuts

This diet does not include any fruit and vegetables; it closely resembles more of what our dogs and cats would have consumed way back in the day when living in the wild.

How to choose what to feed your furry one.

You will know your what your friend likes best. Some may like a big meaty crunch and others may prefer more of a mixture.

If your friend prefers the softer touch of BARF, there is always the option of adding some whole food to the bowl from time to time. This will add a bit of variety and satisfy their need to crunch, it will also help to keep those teeth clean.

A well balanced diet is essential to the wellbeing of our pets.

At Pooch Palate our Raw Foods are primarily made using the BARF model but we do offer a Prey diet for Cats as well as a range of Whole Foods and Treats.
