Can pregnant dogs eat raw food?

The answer to this question is yes!

Raw food can be fed to dogs of all ages and through all life stages, even during pregnancy and lactation.

An adequate and balanced meal plan with all essential nutrients is important for all canine health. This is especially true when it comes to ensuring a pregnant dog and her unborn puppies remain healthy.

It is important that you monitor your pregnant dog and amend her meal plan based on her changing needs. Her appetite will generally be as normal in the early weeks of a 9-week pregnancy, but will increase as things progress; with growing puppies in her tummy her nutritional needs will also change. Her meal plan should be increased to around roughly one and a half times more than normal. An increase of protein, fat and minerals should be incorporated into the meal plan. Your dog’s size will have a bearing on the amount.

Consider serving the increased meals in more frequent, smaller portions. This will assist her with any discomfort she may be experiencing during the later stage of pregnancy and will also aid with constipation.

The benefits of a correctly balanced, raw species-appropriate diet will ensure your pregnant pooch is enjoying a nutrient rich diet which will aid with improved digestion and boost her immune system.

Specific nutrients that are critical for dog pregnancy are naturally found in a raw diet. However, the addition of Bone Broth to her diet will give additional nutrient support, ensuring mom has everything she needs for her wellbeing.

Despite all the benefits a raw diet has to offer; if your pregnant dog is not currently on this meal plan, it is not the appropriate time to be experimenting with new food.
